Hollywood star Jonathan Bailey, the acclaimed actor from the Wicked films, has been delighting fans with a series of unexpected appearances across Sydney this week, fully immersing himself in the local culture.
A Night of Bingo and Surprises at The Beresford
The 37-year-old actor, recently crowned People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, was the guest of honour at a raucous bingo night in Surry Hills. On Wednesday evening, Bailey joined the Wicked-themed 'Bingay' event at the beloved local pub, The Beresford, sending patrons into a frenzy.
Dressed casually in jeans and a black t-shirt, the A-lister blended with the crowd before enthusiastically shouting 'Bingo!' and running onto the stage. The host, dressed as Glinda, electrified the room by announcing, 'Everybody, it's my best friend Jonathan Bailey!'
After the event concluded, Bailey was photographed outside the Eastern Suburbs establishment, happily chatting and hugging his friends goodbye, clearly having enjoyed the night's unique festivities.
An Unforgettable Cinema Appearance
Bailey's Sydney surprises began earlier in the week. On Sunday night, he created a memorable moment for moviegoers at IMAX Darling Harbour during a special screening of 'Wicked: For Good'.
Radio host Kent 'Smallzy' Small warmed up the audience, teasing a mystery guest before revealing the British star. The packed cinema erupted as Bailey, who plays Fiyero, beamed and waved after walking on stage, completely catching the crowd off-guard.
Returning to the 'Real Land of Oz'
In behind-the-scenes footage shared on Instagram, Bailey explained his spontaneous trip. He had only landed in Australia hours earlier and couldn't resist returning to what he cheekily referred to as 'the real land of Oz'.
'I've just landed in Oz. I've missed it so much,' he said in the video. 'I wanted to return to the real land of Oz, which is where we started the press tour for the first film last year. And I thought, why not end the press tour for Wicked: For Good back where it started?'
The actor also revealed his family is visiting Australia and that he had already surprised them at a separate screening. He expressed his excitement about the IMAX venue, noting, 'I think this is the fourth biggest screen in the Southern Hemisphere, baby.'
From a drag queen bingo night to a surprise cinema appearance, Jonathan Bailey's whirlwind tour of Sydney has proven he's not just a Hollywood star but a performer who truly enjoys connecting with his fans in unexpected and joyful ways.
