ITV has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming six-part thriller series The Dark, a chilling serial killer drama set in the Scottish wilderness. The series, adapted from GR Halliday’s debut novel From the Shadows, stars Laura Donnelly (The Nevers, Sugar) and Mark Rowley (Trigger Point, Karen Pirie) and is set to air on ITV and ITVX next month.
Plot and Setting
The story follows detective Monica Kennedy as she investigates the discovery of a young man’s body in an idyllic rural community. She fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike at the heart of the community. As paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and locals realize a serial killer is hidden among them.
With her experience dealing with the darkest aspects of humanity, Kennedy becomes entangled in a cat-and-mouse game with a cunning killer. Only she can stop the monster before he claims more victims. However, when her own history resurfaces, she begins to lose trust in her own judgment, questioning whether her actions might pose the biggest risk to herself and her family.
Production Details
The series was adapted for television by Matt Hartley from Halliday’s novel and produced by Poison Pen Studios, part of ITV Studios. It is produced in association with ITV Studios, which will also handle international distribution. The project is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland.
ITV has a strong track record of gripping dramas, including Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Broadchurch, Unforgotten, Vera, and Trigger Point. The Dark arrives on ITV and ITVX next month.
