I, Jack Wright Cast: Full BBC Drama Lineup

The BBC has acquired the six-part murder mystery series I, Jack Wright, which originally debuted on U&Alibi in April 2025. The drama, written by Chris Lang (Unforgotten, Innocent), has been praised as "faultless" by viewers for its suspenseful script and stellar cast. The BBC will re-broadcast season one and has also acquired season two, currently in production.

Nikki Amuka-Bird as Sally Wright

Nikki Amuka-Bird plays Sally Wright, Jack Wright's third wife. Described as a wealthy, successful lawyer and mother, Sally discovers after her husband's death that he betrayed her and left her and her son with no inheritance. She embarks on a journey to uncover the truth and seek justice. Nikki is known for roles in Torchwood, Silent Witness, Luther, Death in Paradise, Inside No 9, Doctor Who, Hard Sun, Avenue 5, Citadel, and the mini-series Betrayal.

John Simm as Gray Wright

John Simm portrays Gray Wright, the eldest son of Jack Wright, whom he describes as the "bad apple" of the family. A former 90s pop star with a couple of top 10 hits, Gray now runs a small indie record label but is in debt and trouble. John is best known for playing the Master in Doctor Who, Detective Sam Tyler in Life on Mars, and Detective Roy Grace in ITV's Grace (six seasons).

Gemma Jones as Rose Wright

Gemma Jones plays Rose, Jack Wright's first wife. She believes theirs was a love match, not about money. Gemma is famous for playing Bridget Jones's mother and Madam Pomfrey in the Harry Potter films, as well as roles in Sense and Sensibility, Gentleman Jack, Unforgotten, Finding Alice, Trial & Retribution, and MI-5.

Trevor Eve as Jack Wright

Trevor Eve plays the titular Jack Wright, a Yorkshire-born multimillionaire patriarch. He describes Jack as an authoritarian who expects obedience, struggling in a modern world but protected by wealth. Trevor previously worked with Chris Lang on Lawless and Unforgotten. He is best known for Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd in Waking the Dead and lead detective Eddie in Shoestring (1979). Other credits include A Discovery of Witches, The Interceptor, Death Comes to Pemberley, and Kidnap and Ransom.

Daniel Rigby as John Wright

Daniel Rigby plays John Wright, the second son, who is set to take over the family's successful brick-baking business. He has spent his life trying to please his father. Daniel is known for playing Eric Morecambe in the 2011 BBC film Eric and Ernie, as well as roles in Flowers, Jericho, Sick Note, Landscapers, The Witchfinder, Tom Jones, and Summerwater. He also narrates the children's show Teletubbies.

Ruby Ashbourne Serkis as Emily Wright

Ruby Ashbourne Serkis plays Emily Wright, the sole grandchild, whose father is Gray Wright. She returns from California, where she ran a social media platform business with her fiancé Kyle, and becomes embroiled in the chaos after Jack's death. Ruby is known for Star City, Shardlake, Becoming Elizabeth, The Letter for the King, and the 2026 Peaky Blinders film.

The series also stars Rakhee Thakrar as Laura Johnstone, Harry Lloyd as DCI Hector Morgan, Zoë Tapper as Georgia Wright, Liz Kingsman as DC Katie Jones, James Fleet as Bobby, Sabrina Bartlett as Bella, and Percelle Ascott as Reuben.

Plot Synopsis

The synopsis reads: "I, Jack Wright, is a propulsive whodunnit with family secrets at its core. The apparent death by suicide of high-powered businessman Jack Wright sends shockwaves through his family, leaving a mystery that pits greed, loyalty and suspicion against one another. As his many wives and children fight over the remains of his estate, a dogged police detective investigates – and uncovers the shocking truth about this well-heeled clan."

I, Jack Wright starts on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, July 12 at 9:15pm.
