The BBC murder mystery drama I, Jack Wright has officially arrived on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, bringing a star-studded ensemble cast to the six-part whodunit. Written by Chris Lang, the creator of Unforgotten and Innocent, the series originally debuted in April 2025 on U&Alibi before being acquired by the BBC. The corporation has also commissioned a second series, currently in production.
Nikki Amuka-Bird as Sally Wright
Nikki Amuka-Bird portrays Sally Wright, the third wife of the deceased patriarch Jack Wright. Described by the actress as a highly successful, wealthy lawyer and mother, Sally discovers after her husband's death that he has betrayed her, leaving her and her son with no inheritance. This drives her to uncover the truth behind his actions and seek justice for her family. Amuka-Bird is known for roles in Torchwood, Silent Witness, Luther, Death in Paradise, Inside No 9, Doctor Who, Hard Sun, Avenue 5, Citadel, and most recently the mini-series Betrayal.
John Simm as Gray Wright
John Simm plays Gray Wright, Jack's eldest son, whom the actor describes as the "bad apple" of the family. Gray was a minor pop or rock star in the 1990s, achieving perhaps one or two top 10 hits, and now runs a modest indie record label. He is in debt and in a difficult situation when viewers meet him. Simm is best known for playing the Master in Doctor Who, detective Sam Tyler in Life on Mars, and detective Roy Grace in ITV's Grace, now in its sixth series.
Gemma Jones as Rose Wright
Gemma Jones portrays Rose, Jack's first wife. Of her character, Jones said: "My feeling is that they fell madly in love when they first met. I think theirs was definitely a love match and nothing to do with money." Jones is widely recognised for playing Bridget Jones's mother in the Bridget Jones film franchise and Madam Pomfrey in the Harry Potter series. Her other credits include Sense and Sensibility, Gentleman Jack, Unforgotten, Finding Alice, Trial and Retribution, and MI-5.
Trevor Eve as Jack Wright
Trevor Eve takes the central role of Jack Wright, a multimillionaire patriarch and born-and-bred Yorkshireman. Speaking about the character, Eve said: "He's an authoritarian in his patriarchal capacity, and when he speaks, he expects everyone to listen and obey. He's probably struggling in an age that has passed him by, but he has enough money to protect him from the world." Eve previously collaborated with writer Chris Lang on Lawless and Unforgotten. He is best known for playing Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd in Waking the Dead and first rose to prominence as detective Eddie in Shoestring (1979). Other credits include A Discovery of Witches, The Interceptor, Death Comes to Pemberley, and Kidnap and Ransom.
Daniel Rigby as John Wright
Daniel Rigby plays John Wright, Jack's second son, who is poised to take over the family brick-baking business. John has devoted his life to earning his father's approval. Rigby is best known for portraying Eric Morecambe in the 2011 BBC television film Eric and Ernie. He also appeared in Flowers, Jericho, Sick Note, Landscapers, The Witchfinder, Tom Jones, and Summerwater. He is also the narrator of the children's show Teletubbies.
Ruby Ashbourne Serkis as Emily Wright
Ruby Ashbourne Serkis portrays Emily Wright, the only grandchild of the Wright family. Her father is Gray Wright, and she has been living in California, building her own social media platform venture with her fiancé Kyle. She returns home and becomes deeply entangled in the turmoil after Jack's death. Serkis is known for Star City, Shardlake, Becoming Elizabeth, The Letter for the King, and appeared as Agnes in the 2026 Peaky Blinders film.
