From Rap Anthems to Pantomime Villainy
Honey G, the divisive rapper who became a household name on The X Factor in 2016, is making a surprising return to the spotlight. She has swapped her signature high-tops and baseball caps for a glass slipper, landing a prominent role in a new pantomime production of Cinderella.
A New Look for a New Role
The artist, whose real name is Anna Gilford, looked almost unrecognisable as she unveiled her stage makeover on Instagram. The 44-year-old will play one of the two wicked step-sisters alongside Ibiza Weekender star David Potts. The panto kicks off at the Ellesmere Port Civic on December 13 and runs until Christmas Eve, before moving to Fleetwood Marine Hall in Lancashire on December 27.
They will be joined on stage by a stellar cast including former Coronation Street actress Vicky Entwistle as the Fairy Godmother and Stacey Coleman as Cinderella.
A Transformation Beyond the Stage
Honey G's new panto persona coincides with a dramatic personal transformation. The rapper has shed an impressive two stone, dropping from a size 18 to a size 12. She credits intense gym workouts and a new-found passion for endurance events, having completed four triathlons and a 20-mile run.
In a recent interview, Honey explained that working with a personal trainer on strength training, combined with running, fundamentally changed her body shape. "That's why not a lot of people recognise me in the street anymore," she revealed, joking that she no longer gets "chased through shopping centres by school kids."
This physical change has boosted her confidence immensely. She told Closer magazine that she has thrown away her old baggy clothes and now wears outfits she "wouldn't have dreamt of wearing" before, even enjoying stylish lingerie from Victoria's Secret. Her journey, which began in earnest during the 2021 lockdown, has given her a completely new lease on life and a powerful sense of body confidence as she steps into her latest theatrical venture.
