Hollyoaks star Stephanie Waring has confirmed that Cindy Cunningham and Beth Keane have a hidden history, teasing a twist that will 'shock' fans. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Waring revealed that Cindy's return to the village after two years away brings with it plenty of secrets and unexpected surprises.
Cindy and Beth's Off-Screen History
A summer trailer for Hollyoaks hinted that Cindy and her niece Beth Keane have a past away from the village. Waring elaborated, stating they were once very close, but something has turned them against each other. 'There isn't just one reason she's back, there's going to be a few surprises along the way,' Waring said. 'There's things she's keeping to herself. She comes with secrets and I can say she has history with Beth offscreen. So that's the main driver for her to be back in the village as well.'
A Shocking Twist Ahead
Waring teased that fans will be stunned by what unfolds. 'What we are doing now is one of the biggest storylines I've had on the show. Cindy was always a vehicle in someone else's storyline. I think what's coming will shock so many fans,' she said. She added that the story is full of twists, comparing it to planting seeds and watching them grow. 'That's what I think fans will be staying tuned for, and wondering what's going on.'
Beth's Feisty Nature and Similarities to Cindy
Discussing Cindy's relationship with Beth—daughter of Cindy's late sister Dawn Cunningham—Waring noted their similarities. 'It's interesting because Beth is so feisty. I feel like she's taken on some of Cindy's traits. They have history together and are very similar and I think that's why they have bonded away from the village. Cindy was very, very protective of her in the past.'
A Different Kind of Return
Waring expressed relief that Cindy's comeback isn't centered on romance. 'I'd like to see her not chasing a man around the village again, which is what's different this time. She's not come back for a man. She's not looking for that next husband. What would that be, number 6?' she joked. Hollyoaks airs Mondays to Wednesdays on E4 at 7PM and is available to stream on Channel 4.
