Emmerdale fans are convinced that newcomer Serena Sugden is not a true member of the Sugden family, with many speculating her biological father is actually Graham Foster. The character, played by Casey Al-Shaqsy, arrived in the village last month and has since been acting suspiciously, leading viewers to question her motives and parentage.
Serena's Suspicious Behavior Raises Questions
Serena first appeared on screen when she helped a distressed Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) by the lake. The pair bonded, with Charity confiding in Serena about baby Leyla's true parentage and Dr Caitlin Todd's blackmail and sexual assault. After helping Charity, Serena headed to the village to reunite with her long-lost relatives, particularly her cousin Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley).
Robert allowed Serena to stay at Butler's Farm, but his fiancé, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), remains suspicious of the newcomer. Serena has repeatedly asked about Robert's serial killer brother, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). According to Kev Barton (Chris Coghill), Serena is a police officer, prompting Robert to confront her during Wednesday's episode (July 15). Serena claimed she no longer works for the police as they "weren't a good fit" and revealed that John had cashed in his army pension to help her family. She offered some of the remaining cash to Tracy Robinson (Amy Walsh), the wife of John's murder victim, Nate (Jurell Carter).
Serena's Promise and Betrayal
After gathering information from Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw), Serena realized that Victoria Sugden's (Isabel Hodgins) sudden departure was linked to John's death. Viewers know Victoria killed John in self-defense during the Corriedale crossover earlier this year, but his death was ruled a suicide. Serena assured Robert, "If she did [kill John], I'd be buying her a drink, not turning her in. Relax yourself. I'm agreeing with you. She's done nothing wrong. I only wanted the truth, and now I've got it." She added, "I won't take it any further. You have my word on that."
However, Serena later went back on her word, as she was seen parking outside the police station, suggesting she may be about to turn Victoria in.
Fans Speculate Serena's Real Father Is Graham Foster
Now, several soap fans believe Serena might not be a Sugden at all, with her real father possibly being Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), who returned from the dead earlier this year. One viewer wrote on a Facebook fan page, "Am I the only one that isn't sure about Serena Sugden?" Another added, "I don't think she's a Sugden." A third said, "She could be something to do with Graham, maybe his daughter?" A fourth echoed, "Lol she would actually fit in really well with the Tate's because she's so dodgy."
Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
