Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) have formed an unexpected crime-fighting duo in Emmerdale, uniting to take down Dr. Caroline Todd (Caroline Harker), a character revealed as an abuser, blackmailer, and rapist. Vanessa finally learns the whole horrifying truth about Todd after months of defending her, unaware of the allegations. Now aware of the truth, Vanessa is determined to make amends for her unwitting support of Todd. However, their efforts hit a setback when Charity learns that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) will not take the case forward due to lack of evidence. This is a huge blow for Charity, who has been struggling badly. Mack and Vanessa vow not to let Todd get away with her crimes and channel their anger into a new plot. Initially reluctant to talk, Helen begins to open up after Charity reveals she was raped by Todd. Together, they may begin to build a case to bring Todd down once and for all.
