Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) has made a dramatic return to Emmerdale, and his latest move has left villagers stunned. After his illegitimate son Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) was kidnapped and held for ransom — following Kev's theft of his ex-girlfriend's deceased cat's ashes, which had been turned into a diamond — the former criminal turned master baker is now determined to be a devoted father.
Lewis, however, is far from enthusiastic. Despite Kev's reputation for baking the finest lemon drizzle in the region, the young man is not easily won over by a father who abandoned him at birth and again during a diamond heist. Kev, taken aback by Lewis's cold reaction, decides that a grand gesture is needed to prove his commitment.
Kev Changes His Name to Barton
In a surprising move, Kev announces he is changing his surname from Townsend to Barton, declaring that they are now family. The decision stems from his own tragic past, which he finally opens up about. Kev explains how his dark history shaped him into the troubled man he became, and he vows never to return to prison. To him, the name change is a way to protect Lewis from the stigma of his father's criminal background.
When Ross Barton (Michael Parr) arrives and prepares to confront Kev physically, Lewis unexpectedly softens. He tells Ross he wants to give his father a chance.
