Emmerdale is reportedly cutting several cast members in 2026, with one of its longest-running characters set to be killed off in a heartbreaking storyline. The ITV soap has axed Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley), Jimmy King (Nick Miles), Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson), and Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), while Steph Milligan (Georgia Jay) has confirmed she will not return after maternity leave.
Dawn Fletcher Axed After Eight Years
Actress Olivia Bromley has reportedly been axed from her role as Dawn Fletcher after eight years on the show. A source told The Sun: “Olivia is adored by everyone at Emmerdale so the decision to axe her has not gone down well at all. She’s a popular member of the cast and if they can get rid of Olivia then the feeling is virtually no-one is safe. Olivia understood their decision and is preparing to film her exit in the coming months.” Dawn’s storylines included an affair with Joe Tate and past crimes.
Jimmy King Killed Off After 22 Years
In a major blow to fans, Nick Miles, who has played Jimmy King since 2004, will be killed off later this year. According to The Sun, bosses decided the only way Jimmy would leave his wife Nicola and their children was through death. This will lead to the return of Patsy Kensit as Sadie King. Jimmy is the last surviving King brother after Carl, Matthew, Max, and their father Tom all died.
Vinny Dingle Departs
Bradley Johnson is leaving his role as Vinny Dingle, with his on-screen mother Lisa Riley reportedly devastated. A source told The Sun: “Everyone is shocked that bosses decided to end Bradley’s contract. It’s all part of the ITV cuts and they still need to trim back the cast. They are making less episodes so don’t need as many characters.” Vinny’s storylines included his abusive father Paul and the death of his wife Liv Flaherty.
Dr Caitlin Todd Leaves
Villainous Dr Caitlin Todd, played by Caroline Harker, will leave the soap after a harrowing storyline where she sexually assaulted Charity Dingle. A source claimed: “Caroline has loved her time at Emmerdale but it’s time to move on. She always knew playing such an evil character came with a shelf life but she’s leaving with many fond memories.”
Steph Milligan Confirms Exit
Georgia Jay, who played Steph Milligan, went on maternity leave last year and welcomed her baby girl Nora. She confirmed on social media that she will not return, writing: “Can’t believe I left the village nearly a year ago! Miss you Steph, and everyone who made it so special.”
