Coronation Street fans are facing a wait for their next fix of cobbles drama as ITV's schedule continues to be disrupted by coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The soap has only aired three episodes this week: Monday, June 22, and Tuesday, June 23, both half-hour episodes at 9:30pm, and Thursday, June 25, for an hour from 9pm. There is no episode on Friday, June 26, and the schedule for next week remains uncertain, with previous information suggesting a return on Monday, June 29, but current TV guides indicating further football coverage.
Schedule Changes and 'Soap Power Hour'
In January, Coronation Street became part of a 'soap power hour' alongside Emmerdale, with half-hour episodes airing each weeknight. ITV stated this change was due to 'viewing habits continue to change'. The new schedule launched dramatically with a history-making crossover episode where characters from both soaps were caught up in a deadly multi-vehicle crash. However, more recently, fans have been treated to hour-long episodes as the World Cup coverage has caused further schedule shifts.
Theo Silverton Murder Reveal
This week, Coronation Street unveiled a killer twist as it confirmed who killed Theo Silverton. The builder's lifeless body was discovered by a horrified Betsy Swain on the night of her mother Lisa Swain's wedding to Carla Connor in April. In February, Theo was identified as one of five potential victims in a flashforward episode, alongside Carl Webster, Jodie Ramsey, Megan Walsh, and Maggie Driscoll. After a string of dramatic episodes, it was revealed that Theo was the murder victim, ending his 13-month reign of physical and mental abuse over his partner, Todd Grimshaw.
The murder investigation that followed named Todd, George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass, and Danielle Silverton as suspects. However, during Monday's (June 22) episode, it was confirmed that Sarah Platt was the one who struck Theo, causing him to fall from scaffolding outside his and Todd's flat. Betsy later found his body.
What's Next for Viewers?
With the World Cup continuing, Coronation Street's schedule remains fluid. Fans are advised to check ITV's listings for updates. The soap's return is expected next week, but exact dates and times are yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, viewers can catch up on previous episodes via ITV Hub or streaming services.
