Coronation Street killer reveal: Sarah Platt murdered Theo

Coronation Street has finally answered the question that has gripped fans for months: who killed Theo Silverton? In tonight's episode (Monday, June 21), the flash-forward mystery that began earlier this year was resolved with the shocking revelation that Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) is the murderer.

Flash-forward mystery solved

The ITV soap broke new ground with a flash-forward episode that showed a dead body, later confirmed to be Theo's, discovered by Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin). Since then, the hunt for the killer has led police down numerous false trails. They arrested Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) after finding evidence linking her to the crime and George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) claiming he saw her leaving Theo's flat that night. Summer was freed only when Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) finally admitted the truth, leaving the investigation back at square one.

Detective Sergeant Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) suspected Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson), while DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) focused on Gary Windass (Mikey North). But they were all wrong.

Dinner party confrontation

In tonight's dramatic episode, a dinner party brought tensions to a head as Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) confronted Gary and Sarah over their suspected affair. However, they were hiding something far more sinister. A flashback revealed Sarah received a suspicious text from Todd's phone and went to the flat to investigate. There, she confronted Theo on scaffolding outside.

During their argument, Theo said terrible things about baby Billy, the son Sarah and Todd lost. When Theo threatened Sarah with violence, she grabbed a metal pipe and smashed it over his head, sending him plummeting to the ground. Panicking, Sarah called Gary, who told her to wash her hands and ensure someone saw her elsewhere to create an alibi. Viewers will remember Sarah had the strongest alibi of all after being attacked by Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) that same night.

Gary's ultimatum

Now, Gary warns Sarah he cannot continue protecting her at the cost of his own life. Fearing losing his marriage and family, Gary says he will tell Maria the truth about why he has been so secretive, leaving Sarah terrified. On the night of the murder, Gary used Theo's phone to text Danielle, apparently planning to frame her for the crime, making him an accomplice.

Will Gary really come clean? How will Sarah explain things to Kit? Will she admit to an affair to hide the fact that she killed Theo? Or will she finally tell the truth and face the consequences?
