Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine) is left horrified in Coronation Street soon after learning why her son Alfie is so unwell. The storyline, which began in Friday's edition of the ITV soap, has taken a dramatic turn as the cause of Alfie's illness is revealed to be mould from damp in Abi's flat.
Alfie's Health Deteriorates
Abi had been trying to contact her nightmare landlord about the damp and awful smell in her flat. The landlord turned out to be newcomer Idris Nazir (Junade Khan), who showed zero interest in fixing the problems. That evening, Abi sat with Alfie as he fell asleep, coughing heavily. She promised to take him to the doctors, unaware that mould had started spreading underneath his bed due to the damp.
Hospital Dash and Confrontation
In a new video, Abi is seen speaking to Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) after rushing Alfie to A&E with breathing problems. Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) arrives with some of Alfie's things and explains that while looking for a teddy, he spotted the mould. He is convinced this is why Alfie's cough is so severe. As Abi rushes to find a doctor, Idris bursts in. She unleashes her anger, convinced he is responsible for her son's hospitalisation. Idris claims he had no idea the mould was there, but his words fall on deaf ears. Kevin even threatens that if Alfie doesn't recover, he will make sure Idris stops breathing.
Abi Loses Her Home
Due to the issue, Abi is forced to pack up her belongings and move back in with Kevin. While Alfie is in hospital, Idris's love interest Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and cousin Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) suggest that the person who sold Idris the flat could have known about the damp issue and never told him. Later, Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) advises Abi to speak to Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) about taking legal action. Abi is determined to hold someone accountable, but it remains to be seen if she will succeed.
