The BBC medical drama Casualty has been cancelled tonight (July 4) due to FIFA World Cup coverage, with the network airing the match between Canada and Morocco instead. The long-running series typically airs on Saturday evenings at 8:10pm, but this weekend it has been bumped from the schedule entirely.
World Cup Clash Causes Scheduling Shake-Up
The Canada vs Morocco match kicks off at 5:30pm, with the game running until 8:30pm, directly overlapping Casualty's regular time slot. BBC viewers can tune in for the football coverage instead.
However, fans of the medical drama will not have to wait long for its return. Casualty is set to come back to screens the following weekend on Saturday, July 11, at 8:10pm on BBC One, as reported by OK!.
Current Storylines: 'Lethal Legacy' Box Set
The series is currently approaching the conclusion of its 'Lethal Legacy' box set, which has centered on the military past of character Flynn Byron, played by Olly Rix. Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) has also featured prominently, with her affair with trainee doctor Matty Linlaker (Aron Julius) — the son of her close friend Dylan Keogh (William Beck) — taking center stage.
In recent episodes, viewers have grown increasingly worried about recovering alcoholic Dylan after he was seen accepting a glass of champagne while delivering a speech at a function.
Upcoming Episode Synopsis
A synopsis for the forthcoming episode reads: "Dylan is confronted by Matty about his drinking, but assures him it was just a one-off. However, as he treats a burns victim, he begins to suffer debilitating flashbacks to his drinking binge and flees from the unit."
The synopsis continues: "Faith avoids feeding Pearl as she prepares to return to work, leaving Iain concerned. Laura admits she is scared to speak at the council meeting, Rash worries about his presentation, and Jan confesses to Jacob that she has developed feelings for Siobhan."
Fan Reactions to Jan and Siobhan's Potential Romance
Viewers were quick to pick up on Jan's (Di Botcher) growing affection for Siobhan (Melanie Hill) in recent episodes, with many delighted at the prospect of a budding romance. One viewer said: "PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN AT LEAST ONCE." Another wrote: "They going to end up being a item you could see it in last weekend episode in Jan's eyes."
A third commented: "Oh Jan, be careful with your heart, you've been hurt enough. I do love the idea of them together but I don't want it to be another heartbreak for Jan if it doesn't work out." While a fourth shared: "Two weeks ago, I thought they'd put them together. Whether they get together or not, I hope they remain a strong unit."
Casualty returns to BBC One on Saturday, July 11, at 8:10pm.
