BBC Renews Daddy Issues for Third and Final Season

The BBC has confirmed that the hit Stockport comedy Daddy Issues will return for a third and final season, featuring stars from Tip Toe and The White Lotus. The series, which is filmed and set in Stockport, Greater Manchester, follows Gemma (Aimee Lou Wood) as she navigates motherhood with the help of her hapless father Malcolm (David Morrissey).

Third Season Details

Season three will pick up 18 months after the events of series two. Gemma's life has settled into a routine: baby Sadie is in nursery, Gemma has been promoted at the salon, and Malcolm has bought a new washing machine. The synopsis teases that Gemma may finally find love, but a romantic encounter quickly escalates into chaos, forcing her to turn to her father for help.

Aimee Lou Wood, known for her roles in Sex Education and The White Lotus, said of the renewal: "I'm so happy to be back with David and the brilliant Daddy Issues cast for one final time. Gemma and Malcolm are one of the funniest and sweetest comedy double acts on TV, and I've loved being a part of it." David Morrissey added: "I love doing Daddy Issues so much, such a great cast and crew! So I’m delighted to be coming back to have more adventures with Gemma, Malcolm and the gang!"

Cast and Crew

The series also stars Taj Atwal as best friend Cherry, Sarah Hadland as boss Rita, Sharon Rooney as sister Catherine, and David Fynn as Malcolm's friend Derek. The show was created by Danielle Ward, who serves as writer and executive producer.

Previous Success

The first season of Daddy Issues was the biggest comedy launch for BBC Three since the start of 2022, with 1.6 million viewers tuning in during its first four weeks. The second season became the most-watched scripted title on BBC Three last year, according to the BBC. Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy, stated: "As Daddy Issues becomes a threenager, it’s been great seeing audiences take Gemma and Malcolm to their hearts. Danielle has created a brilliantly sharp, fearless comedy and we can’t wait to see the Moscrips take the next, slightly wobbly steps in life with a toddler."

Connection to Tip Toe

David Morrissey also stars in Tip Toe, a five-part Channel 4 drama from Russell T Davies that launched last month as the broadcaster's best new 9pm drama debut since January 2025. The series follows Alan Cumming as Leo and Morrissey as Clive, neighbours in Manchester whose lives grow tense as the world around them changes. Morrissey's role in Tip Toe has drawn further attention to his work in Daddy Issues.
