Anne Hegerty, known as The Governess on ITV's The Chase, has disclosed that a fan nearly disrupted filming of the new spin-off series The Chase Around The World. The incident occurred in Rome, where Hegerty and co-star Mark Labbett were filming near a monument to Italian unification.
Fan Encounters During Filming
Hegerty recounted that while she and Labbett were hiding behind newspapers at an open-air cafe as part of a scene, a woman in front kept turning around. Hegerty feared the woman would expose their location to contestants. “I thought, oh my god, she's going to spoil the show, they run past and she's going to go 'They're there!'” Hegerty said. Fortunately, the woman did not spoil the scene.
Co-star Shaun Wallace also shared a similar experience during filming in Lisbon. A stag party recognized Wallace and Paul Sinha, and they stopped for photos. Wallace asked them not to post the photos until July to avoid revealing filming locations. “As long as they’re not rude or intrusive, we’ll stop,” Wallace said.
The Chase Around The World Format
The new series, hosted by Bradley Walsh, features six pairs competing for £100,000. They travel through European locations such as Rome, Lisbon, and the Alps, answering quiz questions to find hints at landmarks like the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain. The last-place pair faces two Chasers in a final quiz round to stay in the competition.
Filming across Europe posed challenges with tourists. Hegerty mentioned an incident in the Alps where fans recognized them in costume. “The fact that we’re in costume indicates that we’re actually filming so go away,” she joked. She also clarified that she does not own her Governess outfit, saying, “If I owned that suit it would have a terrible accident.”
