The record-breaking West End production of Jesus Christ Superstar is heading to Manchester’s iconic Palace Theatre, with theatre fans already searching for how to secure tickets for under £16. Starring Sam Ryder in the role of Jesus, the limited one-week run is expected to be one of the hottest theatre events of 2027.

Jesus Christ Superstar also carries a unique link to the venue itself. The Palace Theatre of Varieties first opened on Whit Monday in 1891, and after a major refurbishment in the late 1970s, it famously re-opened in 1981 with Jesus Christ Superstar, a production that helped establish its reputation as the premier touring venue it remains today.
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic rock opera tells the story of the final days of Jesus Christ, featuring a powerful score including I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane and the title song Superstar. The production includes a full interval and carries age guidance of 10+, with audience members advised that the show contains flashing lights, visual effects, pyrotechnics, theatrical smoke and haze, depictions of violence, imitation blood and an onstage crucifixion scene.
