Sophie Thatcher, best known for playing Teen Natalie in Yellowjackets, is set to appear in a new horror film based on a Stephen King short story. The Boogeyman was so frightening during early screenings that director Rob Savage had to re-edit it to make it more watchable.
The film follows high school student Sadie Harper and her sister as they try to recover from their mother's death. Their therapist father allows a desperate patient into their home, who brings with him a dark entity. Thatcher plays Sadie. Yellowjackets also features Melanie Lynskey.
Savage told Empire magazine that the first time the creature appears, audiences screamed so loudly that they missed the next lines of dialogue. "So we had to re-cut it and build in 45 seconds of padding, just so they didn’t miss any vital information," he said. He described himself as "a huge jump-scare guy".
Stephen King himself attended a screening in Maine, which Savage had rented for the author. Savage admitted he did not go because he was terrified King would hate the film. However, King reportedly jumped on numerous occasions and sent a message to everyone who worked on the movie. The following morning, Savage received an email from King saying: "Robert, I'm still thinking about your movie the next morning."
Yellowjackets season 2 is currently airing on Showtime in the US and Paramount+ in the UK.
