Vigil returned to BBC One on Sunday night (September 6) for the third episode of its new season, and viewers were quick to issue complaints just minutes in, admitting they struggled to follow the plot.
The drama follows DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and DI Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) as they investigate the murder of a member of a covert British special forces mission at a remote Arctic research station in Svalbard, Norway. The pair must also defuse potential international confrontation as nations compete for control of the Arctic and its resources, all while navigating the changing polar climate and the strain on their careers and relationship.
Viewers admit confusion
As the tension built on screen, several viewers took to X to express their bewilderment. "A bit confusing for me," one person wrote. Another added: "I really have no idea what's going on." A third said: "I started watching it on iPlayer and felt the same, I will try again another day!"
Someone else commented: "Glad I'm not the only one. I'm totally lost!" The confusion continued as another viewer wrote: "Glad I'm not the only one that has no clue what the f*** is going on in this lol." A sixth viewer shared: "Can someone tell me what's going on? My brain can't handle it."
Praise for the series
Meanwhile, other fans praised the show. One person wrote: "Vigil with the wildly talented Suranne Jones is a terrific tension filled mystery.
