Vicky McClure has described reuniting with her Line of Duty co-stars Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar for the upcoming seventh series as "a bit surreal". The actress, who returns as Kate Fleming, spoke about the experience on The One Show on Friday, August 28.
Back together after six years
Filming for series seven has officially wrapped, bringing the AC-12 team back to screens. Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar will reprise their roles as Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming and Ted Hastings.
Asked how it felt to be back together, McClure said: "It was a bit surreal to be honest, it was. Six years, it feels like a long time. Martin, Adi, and I stayed in touch all the time, so it wasn't weird being back together. But, it was weird to act together because there had been such a big gap, and you've got to be really serious."
Keeping a straight face on set
When questioned about how she manages to keep a straight face on set given how close the trio are, McClure credited the schedule. She remarked: "The schedule is tight, you don't have any time to mess about. So you kind of go, 'Ah, somebody's got the giggles.'"
New case for AC-12
A synopsis for the upcoming series reads: "In series seven, AC-12 has been disbanded and rebranded the Inspectorate of Police Standards. Anticorruption work has never been more difficult, and in this challenging climate, Steve Arnott (Martin Compston), Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) are assigned their most sensitive case so far.
"Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, a charismatic officer winning plaudits for a string of takedowns of organised crime, is accused of abusing his position of trust to act as a sexual predator. But is Gough's case a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows?"
