Van Der Valk returns to ITV1 and ITVX tonight, Sunday August 2, at 8pm, with the first of three feature-length episodes. The new season follows a three-year hiatus.
The opening episode, Safe in Amsterdam, sees Commissaris Piet Van Der Valk (Marc Warren) and his team tasked with protecting a whistleblower against a criminal empire after the first witness is murdered. The case becomes personal when the protection officer he must work with turns out to be his fiery ex-girlfriend.

Commissaris Piet Van Der Valk - Marc Warren
Marc Warren reprises the role of the sharp-witted and cynical Dutch detective. He is known for playing Danny Blue in Hustle, Albert Blithe in Band of Brothers, Dougie Raymond in The Vice and Rick in Mad Dogs. More recently, he has appeared in sitcom Big Boys and Netflix's Harlan Coben thriller Missing You.
Chief Commissaris Julia Dahlman - Emma Fielding
Emma Fielding, best known to ITV viewers as Amy Hollis in Unforgotten season three, returns as the team's commanding officer. Her other credits include CB Strike, Sanditon and the BBC's Les Miserables. Her character combines political astuteness with unwavering loyalty to her squad.
Sergeant Kalie Tenkers - Kim Riedle
New to season four is Sergeant Kalie Tenkers, described as "confident, provocative" and someone who relishes pushing boundaries. She is Van Der Valk's ex-girlfriend. German actress Kim Riedle plays the role, with prior credits in Dear Child, Back for Good and The Fox, as well as the romantic drama Verbotene Liebe.
Inspector Lucienne Hassell - Maimie McCoy
Maimie McCoy plays Van Der Valk's reliable confidante and second-in-command, Inspector Lucienne Hassell, a character described as "calm, centred down-to-earth". McCoy is best known for playing Milady de Winter in The Musketeers, with other roles in A Confession, London Kills, DCI Banks, The Libertine and The Couple Next Door.
Hendrik Davie - Darrell D'Silva
Darrell D'Silva returns as the eccentric, hard-drinking forensic pathologist Hendrik Davie. The character must confront his own mortality in the new series after "facing a frightening medical self-diagnosis". D'Silva's credits include Domina, Informer and Out of the Blue, along with film roles in The Wise Guy, Cold Storage, A Million Days and In The Grey.
