Welsh actor Glyn Houston has died at the age of 93, his friend and biographer Dean Powell has announced. Houston, who was born in the Rhondda valley, enjoyed a career spanning more than six decades, appearing in over 80 films and numerous television shows.
Houston rose to fame in the 1950s and played Joan Collins' lover in one of her earliest film appearances, Turn The Key Softly. He also worked alongside Hollywood legends such as Clark Gable, Alan Ladd and Lana Turner.
The younger brother of fellow actor Donald Houston, he was close friends with Welsh stars Richard Burton and Stanley Baker. His television credits included a role in the 1980s sitcom Keep It in the Family.
Dean Powell, who helped Houston with his memoirs, announced his death with 'deep regret' and described him as a 'true gentleman'. Powell said Houston was 'kind, generous and an incredibly funny man who was a pleasure to know for over 20 years'.
Houston grew up in Tonypandy and married Shirley Lawrence in 1956, with whom he had two daughters. Despite leaving the south Wales valleys seven decades ago, Powell noted that Houston 'had all of the great qualities of a working-class Welshman at heart'.
