The Undeclared War season two concludes on Channel 4 tonight, but fans are already wondering about a third series of the Simon Pegg cyber-thriller. While Channel 4 has not confirmed a renewal, cast members have revealed discussions about the show's future.
Series Two Finale and Cast Hints
The second series, which returned last month after a four-year hiatus, stars Simon Pegg, Sian Brooke, Hannah Khalique-Brown, Alex Jennings, Danny Sapani, Ed Stoppard, and Chloe Pirrie. The show follows an elite team of analysts at GCHQ as they covertly battle cyber-attacks on Britain in a post-pandemic world.
Speaking to RadioTimes, Simon Pegg said: "I've had a couple of conversations with the writer about where we could go next, in terms of what the status quo is at the end of the series. Obviously, everything's changed." This likely refers to his character Danny Patrick's relationship with his wife Barbara, played by Sian Brooke, after she was revealed as the mole in season two.
Potential Storylines and Writer's Perspective
Hannah Khalique-Brown, who plays Saara Parvin, added: "There are definitely options and plot lines that could be explored. The scope is there, for sure. Whether or not it happens, we don't know."
Lead writer Colin Teevan discussed how the second series expanded the world, saying: "One of the key differences is perspective. Series one was very much Saara's story. Through her, we discovered this hidden world and learned how it operates. Series two shifts the focus towards Danny, who sits at the centre of decision-making."
He also noted: "One of the advantages of returning to a story is that you can deepen characters and relationships that were only hinted at previously."

If a third series is commissioned, fans may face a long wait—the second series wasn't greenlit until three years after the first aired, and it took four years to reach screens. The Undeclared War seasons one and two are available to stream on Channel 4.
