Julie Graham has teased an "incredibly tense" storyline in the upcoming fourth series of Trigger Point, as the ITV thriller returns this weekend. Speaking alongside co-star Eric Shango on ITV's This Morning on Thursday, August 27, Julie, who joins the series as new character Nia Quentin, revealed that the latest instalment will feature a major storyline running throughout the series.
"There's a huge, huge, huge storyline throughout this series which is incredibly tense," she told presenters Josie Gibson and Rylan Clark. Eric, who returns as Danny, was equally enthusiastic about what fans can expect, teasing that it's "nothing like British shows you've ever seen before", describing it as "must-see TV."
New Character and Returning Cast
Julie joins the cast as Nia, the highly capable and formidable head of the counter-terrorism unit, while Vicky McClure returns as bomb disposal expert Lana Washington. Actress Vicky McClure has also teased an intriguing dynamic between her character Lana and Nia, revealing that the two characters quickly find common ground.
She told Radio Times: "It's nice, actually, because Nia and Lana have a very similar mindset, so there's not a battle between them. That's rare, given that Lana is usually battling the powers that be, so it's nice for her to find somebody she feels is on her side and respects her skill set, woman to woman. They're able to work in harmony."
Plot and Stakes
Vicky also hinted that Nia will have a particularly compelling storyline of her own, saying: "Nia's story is very interesting, I can't say too much but people will be absolutely gripped by it." Eric previously suggested that viewers will see a "big leap" in Lana's character as the new series explores more of her development.
Series four begins with London hit by a series of bomb attacks, leaving Lana and her team racing to identify those responsible before another strike takes place. Alongside the high-stakes investigation, Lana is attempting to recover from her painkiller addiction, while secrets within the team begin to emerge.
Executive Producer's Warning
Executive producer Jed Mercurio has described the threat facing the team as their most dangerous yet. "This is the most dangerous bomb threat that the team has faced. We raised the stakes as high as we possibly could," he told the Royal Television Society.
