ITV viewers were left stumped after a maths question on The 1% Club proved too tricky for many. Host Lee Mack presented contestants with a brain teaser that only one per cent of the population is expected to solve correctly.
The question asked: "Given that: 0 + 100 = 100, 1 + 99 = 100, 2 + 98 = 100. What is the sum of all the numbers between zero and 100?" Contestants had just 30 seconds to work out the answer.
After the clip was shared on TikTok, many viewers guessed 4,950 or 5,000, but both were incorrect. The correct answer is 5,050. One user explained: "There are 50 combinations for 100 except for the middle, 50. So the math is simple: 50*100+50=5050."
Another added: "Any sequence starting from 1, multiply the top number by the next subsequent number and divide by 2. So (100x101)/2 = 5,050." Some viewers joked they needed to go back to school, while others claimed it was common knowledge.
