Toby Wallace Cast in Netflix's Assassin's Creed

Netflix has secured a major star for its upcoming live-action adaptation of the blockbuster video game franchise, Assassin's Creed. Toby Wallace, known for his role in the hit series Euphoria, has been confirmed as the first series regular for the highly anticipated project.

From Euphoria to the Assassin's Order

Toby Wallace is making a triumphant return to Netflix, having previously starred in the 2019 mystery drama The Society. The Australian actor, 30, has just finished filming for the third and final season of HBO's Euphoria, where he was promoted to a series regular. While his character in the teen drama remains shrouded in secrecy, industry whispers suggest his storyline will be connected to Maude Apatow's character, Lexi Howard.

Wallace's casting in the Assassin's Creed series is rumoured to be for a co-lead role. In a significant departure for fans, the characters in the Netflix adaptation will reportedly differ from those established in the original video games, suggesting a fresh narrative take.

A Prestigious Production Team and Italian Setting

The creative minds steering this ambitious adaptation have impressive credentials. The series will be helmed by Jeb Stuart, the showrunner behind Vikings: Valhalla. They are joined by an executive production team that includes Jason Altman and Andy German from Ubisoft Film & Television, and Danielle Kreinik serving as co-executive producer.

Adding to the excitement, filming for the Assassin's Creed series is scheduled to commence in 2026 with Italy serving as a primary location. This setting strongly hints that the series may draw inspiration from the game's most celebrated story arcs, particularly those following the Italian assassin Ezio Auditore.

Following in the Footsteps of Gaming's Greatest Adaptations

Netflix's venture aims to replicate the monumental success of other video game adaptations, most notably HBO's The Last of Us. The original Assassin's Creed video game franchise is a behemoth in the industry, having sold over 230 million copies in its 17-year history, making it one of the best-selling series of all time.

Wallace's other notable recent work includes a role in Jeff Nichols' film The Bikeriders, alongside Tom Hardy and Austin Butler, and a starring role as guitarist Steve Jones in Danny Boyle's FX series, Pistol. The final season of Euphoria, where Wallace features, is expected to debut globally in the spring of 2026.
