The film adaptation of Richard Osman's bestselling novel, The Thursday Murder Club, has unveiled its star-studded cast, including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie, and Ben Kingsley. Directed by Chris Columbus and produced by Steven Spielberg's company, the film will be released in cinemas on August 22 before streaming on Netflix from August 28.
Helen Mirren, 78, will play Elizabeth Best, a former spy and the formidable leader of the Thursday Murder Club. Pierce Brosnan, 70, takes on the role of Ron Ritchie, a former union activist with a suspicious and curious nature. Ben Kingsley, 80, portrays retired psychiatrist Ibrahim Arif, while Celia Imrie rounds out the foursome as former nurse Joyce Meadowcroft.
David Tennant joins the cast as Ian Ventham, the shady property developer who owns Coopers Chase retirement village. Jonathan Pryce will play Elizabeth's husband, Stephen Best, and Naomi Ackie portrays PC Donna De Freitas, who assists the club in their crime-solving adventures.
Osman expressed his delight at the casting, describing it as 'thrilling' to see the lead roles filled by such talented actors. The novel, first published in 2020, spawned two sequels and has become a global phenomenon.
