This City Is Ours series 2 Merseyside filming locations

BBC drama This City Is Ours returns for its second series on Sunday, October 25 at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer, with filming locations spotted across Merseyside throughout 2026.

The series, which first aired in March 2025, has attracted an average of 6.2 million viewers to date. The first episode drew more than 8.3 million viewers, more than quadrupling its initial overnight figure of 1.9 million. Almost three million people streamed the series finale ahead of its BBC One transmission last May.

Filming Locations Across Merseyside

ECHO photographers captured filming taking place in various locations including Lark Lane, Old Hall Street and Moorfields. In Crosby, film crew were spotted back in March, with traffic stopped while an actor dressed in beige trousers and a dark blue jacket crossed College Road.

At Moorfields station, a notice informed commuters that walking through the station might result in appearing in the thrilling sequences, with production set to show a chase scene through Liverpool's underground. Filming also took place on Wood Street, where James Nelson-Joyce was spotted in character getting out of a car.

Key Scenes and Cast

James Nelson-Joyce, who won the Best Breakthrough Talent Award at the RTS North West Awards 2025 for his role in the series, returns as leading man Michael Kavanagh, alongside Hannah Onslow as Diana Williams, Michael's partner. Filming on Lark Lane involved luxury cars including a Bentley, Mercedes and Lamborghini on set.

Other locations included The Vines pub on Lime Street, Chapel Street, Hope Street, Temple Street, The White Hart pub, and Stanley Street. On Old Hall Street, Nelson-Joyce was spotted in character on his phone outside the Innside Hotel, with filming later seen taking place inside the hotel.

James told the ECHO last year: "You don't realise what goes into a production. The houses we were filming in, we were renting them off people, so they were getting paid. It's brilliant for the city and the economy."

Impact on Liverpool

The series has been a hit with fans, with season one ending when Michael's ally, Banksy, runs over a Colombian cocaine supplier. The second series will pick up where things left off at the end of the first series, with Liverpool remaining at the heart of the show.
