Thea’s risky act in Emmerdale has life-changing consequences for Charity

DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) has put her future and career on the line in an attempt to help Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) in Emmerdale. The risky move came after Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) discovered Thea’s connection to Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) and learned that Thea knew the truth about Doctor Caitlin Todd’s (Caroline Harker) death.

Blackmail and a desperate plan

Sarah realised that Thea had risked her job to support the theory that Charity killed Caitlin in self-defence. She then gave Thea an ultimatum: help free Charity from prison or face exposure to the police over her lies.

Reluctantly, Thea set her plan in motion in today’s episode. At the station, she tampered with a recording file from Charity’s initial interview and later told her boss it was corrupted.

Case likely to collapse

Thea’s boss said she would speak to the CPS but doubted they would take the case further, given Sarah’s unreliability as a witness and the broken interview file. DS Ramsden hated what she was doing, but damaging her reputation seemed better than hoping Sarah would stay quiet.

At the shop, Serena updated Sarah, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) and Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant), explaining that Thea had sabotaged evidence and the case was likely to collapse. Serena was fairly confident Charity would soon be released.

What’s next for Charity?

Charity is expected to come home this week, but tensions between her and Sarah remain. While Charity may be out of prison, she still faces potential consequences for her actions against Sarah, with possible punishment looming.
