A lollipop lady from Gateshead has told of her delight after winning £110,000 on Michael McIntyre's The Wheel. Sally, a former flight attendant from Southampton, appeared on Saturday's BBC show and described the experience as 'absolutely brilliant from start to finish'.
Sally was diagnosed with lung cancer and received support from her friends during treatment. She was given the all-clear earlier this year and now plans to use her prize money to show her appreciation for their unwavering support. 'I don't think I would have got through it so well without the support of those friends,' she said.
She added that she would like to treat her friends as a way of saying thank you. Sally also revealed that she and her boyfriend Mark are planning to transform a van into a motorhome for travelling, though they have not yet purchased the vehicle.
For the final question, Sally was teamed with former rugby player Joe Marler. She disclosed that Joe was so anxious he confessed to Michael McIntyre that he did not fancy the pressure of helping with the final answer. Reflecting on the moment, Sally said it didn't sink in and that the wait seemed like a lifetime.
Sally, who now lives in Gateshead, was unable to watch the programme alongside her friends in Southampton but said she cherished the experience. She praised the crew and production team, and revealed that all the contestants have remained friends.
