The Staircase, the acclaimed true crime drama starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette, will be available to stream for free on ITVX from Saturday, July 25. Originally released on HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2022, the eight-part series is now making its way to the UK streaming platform.

The drama centres on the murder trial of crime writer Michael Peterson, whose wife Kathleen was found dead at the bottom of the stairs in their North Carolina home in 2001. The series not only explores the events before and after her death but also follows the French documentary crew that filmed Peterson during his trial. The Staircase is an adaptation of the real-life French documentary of the same name, released in 2004.
Beyond Peterson's fight for freedom, the case tears his family apart, with biological and stepchildren forced to take sides, some unsure of his innocence.
