The Rapture returns tonight, Sunday August 2, at 9pm on BBC One, as forensic psychologist Gabs Fox (Ruth Madeley) continues her attempts to uncover the truth behind 17-year-old Bethany Krall's (India Amarteifio) claims that she can foresee disasters. Bethany also insists she didn't savagely kill her mother two years earlier, which led to her being placed in a psychiatric facility.
But while viewers tune into The Rapture, another 'excellent' BBC drama has caught fans' attention: The Fades. The 2011 six-part supernatural series, available on BBC iPlayer, follows 17-year-old Paul, who is tormented by apocalyptic visions when he discovers he can see spirits of the dead. When one of these restless spirits crosses back into the realm of the living, Paul is thrust into a battle to prevent the apocalypse.
What viewers are saying
At the time of its launch on BBC Three, one viewer said the channel "has struck gold again with The Fades." Another commented: "Just gets better and better... a classic unfolds before my eyes."
Another wrote: "Every now and then a diamond comes along, a series that achieves excellence in so many departments that perfection is within reach." A further comment read: "This is one of those diamonds. What a wonderful surprise." One viewer also compared it to iconic series such as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones "where the plot escalates and grows in complexity at the end of each episode."
A warning for some viewers
However, The Fades may not appeal to all tastes. One viewer cautioned: "Due to supernatural violence and mature themes, this show is not suitable for younger audiences or the faint of heart."
Paul is portrayed by Iain De Caestecker, known for Coronation Street and Agents of SHIELD, with a cast that also includes Tom Ellis (Lucifer), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) and Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones). The Fades is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
