The cast of BBC's new psychological thriller The Rapture faced an unexpected struggle while filming on location in South Wales: soaring temperatures. Ruth Madeley, who plays Dr Gabrielle Fox, recalled shooting in Port Talbot during 33-degree heat, a figure she would not have believed if she had not experienced it herself. Iwan Rheon, the Welsh actor known for Game of Thrones, noted that it was 35 degrees in Port Talbot, which he described as bizarre because it has never been that hot there.
Filming locations across South Wales
The series was predominantly filmed across south Wales, including Port Talbot, Swansea, Pontypridd, and Porthcawl. Other locations included Margam Park. Madeley praised the stunning scenery, saying the nature of the locations is unbelievable and that you can only get that in Wales. Rheon, returning home to film, said the diverse range of locations—from a run-down town to open forests and ruins—offers filmmakers the opportunity to make many different places look like anywhere.
Cast praises Welsh landscapes
India Amarteifio, who plays Bethany Krall, also enjoyed the location filming. She said staying on a farm and seeing horses, cows, and green meadows after intense days was amazing. She noted that Wales is a place where you can film throughout the year because different locations are readily available close together. Amarteifio added that the show is about celebrating and looking after the planet, and Wales is a great place to show that.
