The Hairdresser Mysteries BBC Release Date Confirmed

The Hairdresser Mysteries, a new BBC detective drama series likened to Beyond Paradise, has confirmed its release date. The six-part show, created by Jim Cartwright, will debut on BBC iPlayer at 6am on Friday, 17 July, and air on BBC One from 2pm that afternoon.

Cast and Premise

The series features Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones's Diary) as Lily Petal, a high-end hairdresser who leaves the city for a village salon. Charlotte Jordan (Coronation Street) plays her assistant Clary Coombs, with Ben Castle-Gibb (You) as PC Adam Watson. Other cast members include Sunetra Sarker (Ackley Bridge), Guy Henry (Holby City), Clive Rowe, and Wendi Peters (Corrie).

The synopsis teases: "The Hairdresser Mysteries is an original, homegrown drama and a nostalgic nod to the 70’s which sees a high-end hairdresser, Lily Petal, opt out of the competitive city scene to buy a small village hairdressers at the top of a cobbled street."

Plot Details

Lily becomes the hub of village secrets, using her "hairdressing intuitive, empathy and understanding" to solve mysteries. Her salon assistant Clary Coombs is described as intelligent and analytical, and the two team up to investigate. PC Adam Watson takes a shine to Clary, while Sunetra Sarker plays local gossip Wincey Evans, Clive Rowe plays charity shop manager Lonnie, and Guy Henry plays eccentric antiques dealer Race Runard.

Guest star Wendi Peters plays newcomer Gloria Crudd, who hopes to make her ice cream business a success but faces her past.
