A proper plot twist is a punch to the gut. Bob Newhart starred in two beloved sitcoms, The Bob Newhart Show (1972-78) and Newhart (1982-90). In the final episode of Newhart, his character Dick Loudon is knocked out by a stray golf ball and wakes up next to Emily (Suzanne Pleshette), his wife from the earlier series, implying that the entire show was a dream. It relies on a classic trope, but for Newhart it works beautifully, offering a final gag that celebrates both series.
