Bradley Walsh was left gobsmacked on Tuesday's episode of The Chase as contestant Amanda made television history by securing exactly the amount she needed for a pair of expensive trainers. The long-running ITV quiz show saw Amanda, along with fellow contestants Eileen, Andreas and Merrick, face off against Chaser Paul Sinha.
Before her turn, Amanda revealed she planned to buy her son a pair of Balenciaga trainers costing £800. Walsh expressed shock at the price, exclaiming, 'I beg your pardon?!' During her cash-builder round, Amanda earned £4,000. The Chaser then offered her a high amount of £50,000 and a low amount of £800, which matched the cost of the trainers. After consulting her teammates, Amanda chose the low offer and successfully beat Paul Sinha to secure her place in the final chase.
Walsh declared the moment 'extraordinary', noting, 'I think this is the first time ever in 15 years someone has come on for something specific and actually got the amount they needed, specifically for that amount, and then got through.' Paul Sinha added, 'It's television history, but it's a terrible indictment of the state of society,' prompting laughter from the audience.
In the final chase, Eileen, Amanda and Merrick played for a share of £6,000 but scored only 15 points, which was not enough to beat the Sinnerman, who caught them with 46 seconds remaining. Despite the loss, Amanda's unique achievement was celebrated as a memorable moment in the show's history.
