The Chase Contestant Dies Weeks After Episode Airs

Debbie, a contestant on ITV's The Chase, has died after a 17-year battle with cancer, her husband confirmed on Tuesday 21 March. The episode featuring her appearance aired as a repeat last week, having been filmed three years ago before the coronavirus lockdown.

During the show, Debbie faced Chaser Shaun Wallace after building £5,000 in her cash builder round. A lighthearted exchange occurred when Shaun greeted her with 'Hello Debbie,' prompting host Bradley Walsh to joke about the flirtation. Debbie quipped back, 'Hello Shaun,' and asked, 'See I wasn't being flirty was I?' Shaun defended her, claiming neither was flirting.

Debbie was eliminated by Shaun after choosing to stick with her £5,000. Only two contestants reached the Final Chase, but they failed to beat the Chaser. Her husband revealed that she had breast cancer 14 years prior, which returned a year after filming, spreading to her bones and brain.
