The Blame star teases season two storyline

Nathan Mensah, who plays DC Lewis Brimah in ITV's The Blame, has teased a possible storyline for a second season of the police drama starring Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth.

The six-part series concludes on Monday night, with the killer of Sophie Madsen finally revealed. The show followed DI Emma Crane, played by Michelle Keegan, as she worked to uncover systemic misogyny and corruption within the police force after the death of a teenage ice figure skater.

Secrets from DI Emma's past emerge

While discovering who really killed Sophie, secrets from DI Emma's past also began to emerge, with the series ending with DC Lewis Brimah discovering evidence that DI Emma had been lying.

In an exclusive interview, Mensah, who took on his first TV role in the series, shared: "There's nothing I can really tease at the moment, who knows? We'll just have to wait on the next season of Lewis and Emma."

Mensah's vision for his character

He then addressed where he would want to see his role develop, saying: "I would personally want to step into a DI position, and then investigate Emma but without her knowing."

He continued: "I think Lewis would have to figure out where this third picture of Amber Dodds came from, why she hid it from him, without necessarily challenging her directly. I think he would set up his own investigation and almost monitor her and see how she navigates this whole situation, thinking that Lewis doesn't know, and I guess at some point, speaking to her about it and saying to her directly, why did you hide this from me, why didn't I know about this? I want to know more about her history and background, has this happened in the past, who is she really?"

He added: "I also thought Drummond, who speaks to Sophie in the car initially and lets her go, because he comes in to help me at some point, I wondered whether he would step up and help me investigate her a little bit."

First TV role reflections

Ahead of the series airing, Mensah described his character by saying: "Lewis is a good guy, in fact, he's a great guy… He's coming to the system, going through the fast-track graduate scheme which means he hasn't had the experience that a lot of the other officers and other detectives have."

Reflecting on the moment he knew he had his first TV role, he added: "I feel so grateful and I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity to take on this role. Of course, there were nerves. Similar to Lewis, I was coming in and working with all these amazing actors, and you want to do a good job."

The Blame is available to watch on ITVX.
