The Assassin season 2 on Prime Video introduces new characters, including Inspector Cortez, played by Natalia Tena, best known for her role as Nymphadora Tonks in the Harry Potter films. The series returns with Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore after a disastrous search for Edward's (Highmore) birth mother tore them apart, forcing Edward to reunite with Julie (Hawes) when his wife, Kayla (Shalom Brune-Franklin), is kidnapped.
New Characters and Cast Additions
The streamer teased the new season: "Set against sun-soaked Spain, this action thriller blends humour, and high-stakes chaos as the duo take on the country's corrupt underworld while facing the past that broke them to save the future that still matters." Writer Harry Williams offered insight into the new characters, including Titus, played by Boris Van Severen, who works in a retired singers' care home in Belgium.
Williams shared: "We meet a guy working in a retired singers' care home in Belgium called Titus, played by Boris Van Severen. He needs money, it looks like someone he knows has been kidnapped as well, so he steals money off an old lady, one of the patients at the care home. There's a twist in that story at the end of episode one. There's also the police who are in pain, where Kayla has gone missing, led by Inspector Cortez [Natalia Tena] who is fantastic."
Inspector Cortez and Titus
Inspector Cortez is described as an ambitious and focused character who is always one step ahead. A strong leader, she is very clever and motivated, but was deeply hurt and let down by her last marriage. Tena, an English actress and musician, is also known for playing Osha in the HBO series Game of Thrones and is the lead singer and accordionist of Molotov Jukebox.
Tena said of joining the show: "I watched season one and thought it was brilliant and hilarious. It's got a different kind of balance of drama and comedy and action. You get action fun, especially in American movies, but this has got something a bit deeper, and a great English humour." Titus, played by Boris Van Severen, a Belgian actor known for his role as rockstar Davy Coppens in the film Belgica, works in a care home and has a dark past he is trying to break away from.
Bastien and Returning Cast
Bastien, played by Arnaud Binard, is described as a very passionate and focused character whose search for Julie is not just professional, but also personal. Binard, a 55-year-old French actor and film producer known to UK audiences for playing Laurent in Emily in Paris, said of his character: "He's more complicated than the stereotype of character we think he is at the beginning."
The second season also sees the return of Devon Terrell, who plays Kayla's brother Ezra. Terrell, a 34-year-old Australian actor, is best known for playing a young Barack Obama in the biographical film Barry and Arthur in the Netflix series Cursed. The Assassin season 2 is on Prime Video.
