The American gothic horror series 'Interview with the Vampire' is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer, and it's leaving viewers 'terrified' and 'shivering'. Based on Anne Rice's 'The Vampire Chronicles', the show follows vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) as he recounts his turbulent relationship with fellow vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid).
Viewers React with Fear and Admiration
The series, which premiered in 2022 and aired its third season this summer, has become a hit among fans. On Reddit, one viewer wrote: "I did a rewatch and I was kinda surprised at how many times I found myself cringing or legit shivering - it's almost like I forgot this is first and foremost a horror show, and 99 percent of the time due to Lestat. Especially after episode five, I feel like there is a huge flip in the switch, which really solidifies the horror aspect of the genre. Lestat is some serious horror movie villain material (God bless you Sam Reid)."
Another fan described the show as "terrifying and heartbreaking," while someone else noted it was "more upsetting/disturbing than scary." A different viewer commented: "There is definitely violence and blood depicted, but I would say the horror aspect comes from the emotional beats more than anything."
Emotional Horror Takes Center Stage
Referencing a particular scene, one fan posted: "Season two, episode five. I have never been as disturbed as I was once it hits that point in the episode. The emotions cut deep and while that episode isn't particularly gory, the emotional torture is INTENSE." Another added: "There is a lot of torture depicted – a lot of it is psychological and emotional, but there's quite a bit of physical torture/abuse too."
The cast also includes Eric Bogosian, Bailey Bass, Assad Zaman, and Jennifer Ehle as Gabriella de Lioncourt, Lestat's mother.
