Jason Sudeikis' Ted Lasso is taking on coaching a women's football team in the new season four trailer. The Apple TV Plus series follows the American football coach as he moves to England to manage a British football team, AFC Richmond.
The last season, widely believed to be the series' finale, ended with Ted moving back to the US. However, the new trailer shows his return.
Trailer Highlights
Released on Tuesday, the one-minute trailer opens with Ted back in the clubroom, seeing his “Believe” sign taped back up on the wall. Former player turned assistant coach Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) welcomes him, saying it is “good to see him” before they embrace.
Clips feature Brendan Hunt as Coach Willis Beard, Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, and Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins. The trailer, set to Mumford & Sons’ song Run Together, also introduces Tanya Reynolds as a coaching staff member hired to help run the club’s new women’s football team.
New Team, New Challenges
The team is shown posing for a photo and taking the pitch. One player leaves Ted and Coach Beard bewildered when she pushes back against their catchphrase “football is life,” telling them: “No, life is so much more than football.” Ted replies: “It’s not as catchy, but, true.”
The official synopsis teases: “Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
Return After Hiatus
After season three concluded in 2023, it was announced in March 2025 that the series would return. However, Goldstein, also a writer on the show, had previously said the series was “planned as three,” while Sudeikis told Deadline before the season three premiere that it was “the end of the story we wanted to tell.”
Ted Lasso has received 61 Emmy nominations total and won 13, with Sudeikis winning lead actor in a comedy series in 2021 and 2022. The series was developed by Sudeikis, Hunt, Bill Lawrence, and Joe Kelly, based on the pre-existing format and characters from NBC Sports.
Season 4 of Ted Lasso will stream from August 5 on Apple TV Plus.
