The salaries for the cast of the new Superman film have reportedly been revealed, and the highest earner is not the titular hero. Despite David Corenswet taking on the role of Clark Kent and the Man of Steel, British actor Nicholas Hoult, who plays the villainous Lex Luthor, is said to have earned the most.
According to reports, Hoult’s higher pay reflects his established film career, with roles in Mad Max: Fury Road, the X-Men series, The Menu, and Nosferatu. Corenswet is better known for television work in The Politician and We Own This City, while Rachel Brosnahan, who portrays Lois Lane, starred in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Top cast members are also reportedly due bonuses based on the film’s box office performance.
The film marks the first release in DC Studios’ newly rebooted cinematic universe, written and directed by James Gunn. Its synopsis follows Superman drawn into conflicts, with Lex Luthor seeking to eliminate him. The cast also includes Nathan Fillion, Isabella Merced, and Skyler Gisondo.
Deadline reports that the film has already earned more than $40 million from preview screenings ahead of its official release weekend. Projections estimate an opening weekend total of around $115 million.
