Strictly Come Dancing star Lacey Turner left her professional dance partner Vito Coppola baffled during a rehearsal break when she made a crisp sandwich. The EastEnders actress and her partner are preparing for their second live performance on Saturday, following their debut on the show's opening live programme.
Cha-cha-cha success
The BBC competition launched with its first live show on Saturday (September 26), where Lacey and Vito performed a cha-cha-cha to Whitney Houston's 'How Will I Know?'. The duo earned the series' first standing ovation and scored a combined 27 points from the judges.
After their triumph, they returned to rehearsals on Monday (September 28) to work on their second routine ahead of the show's first elimination. During a lunch break, Vito filmed Lacey preparing her meal for his Instagram Story, captioning it: "Sorry, what is this? Crisp sandwich".
Crisp sandwich confusion
In the video, Vito could be heard saying: "Well, we've got our lunch break, and is this something I cannot....", reports Wales Online. As the camera turned to Lacey, she declared, "I'm so happy right now," while tipping a packet of crisps onto her plate.
"The crisps are with the sandwich," Italian dancer Vito observed. As Lacey lifted her sandwich, she clarified, "You need to put them in," causing Vito to question, "No, you put the crisps in the sandwich?"
"Yes and then you get a crunch," Lacey responded. Sounding perplexed, Vito enquired, "Why is that? I don't think you're allowed to do that. Is this an English thing?" While examining his own sandwich, Vito remarked, "I will stick with this, it doesn't exist, a crisp sandwich," as Lacey chuckled, "You haven't lived."
Current standings
Since none of the 15 celebrities were eliminated on Saturday, their marks will carry forward to next week's scoreboard. Lacey and Vito are currently in third place with a tally of 27 points.
Leading the pack are YouTuber John Nellis and Katya Jones with 31 points, while Australian singer Delta Goodrem and dance partner Kai Widdrington occupy second place with 29 points. Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters and Aljaz Skorjanec are at the foot of the table with 15 points.
The opening live programme also marked the presenting debuts of Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and former professional dancer Johannes Radebe. Though they had appeared a week earlier during the launch programme, that had been pre-filmed, making this their first time hosting before millions of home viewers.
