BBC Will Not Investigate Complaints About Strictly's Giovanni Pernice

The BBC has reportedly decided not to launch an investigation into complaints about Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice. This follows requests from his former dance partner Amanda Abbington for backstage footage of their rehearsals. The actress quit the show in October 2023, citing personal reasons, and later revealed a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Amanda Abbington, 51, previously described the experience as a “real shock” and her friend stated she “needed therapy and was left in shock by the behaviour she was exposed to”. It is understood that BBC bosses met with Pernice last year regarding his conduct, but no action was taken. An insider told The Sun: “The BBC are standing behind Giovanni and won’t be pursuing an investigation.”

Past dance partners have also commented on Pernice’s rigorous training style. Laura Whitmore, partnered with him in 2016, said she felt “uncomfortable” and “cried every day”. Ranvir Singh, who danced with him in 2020, admitted to a “total meltdown” during rehearsals. Richie Anderson, his partner in 2022, no longer follows Pernice on Instagram, though Ranvir and Amanda still do.
