Strictly Come Dancing fans have expressed disappointment over the 2024 line-up, with many accusing BBC bosses of 'scraping the barrel' for celebrities. The 23rd series, set to air this autumn, has been met with criticism on social media after the full roster was revealed.
Among the announced contestants are Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Love Island's Dani Dyer, Doctor Who's Alex Kingston, Vicky Pattinson, YouTube star George Clarke, Lioness and broadcaster Karen Carney, and Hollywood correspondent Ross King. However, fans have labelled the list as 'underwhelming' and 'tragic'.
One viewer commented: 'Not really into the lineup this year. It feels a little underwhelming.' Another wrote: 'Is it me, or are they really scraping the barrel for these celebrities? It feels like the Z-list reboot.' A third added: 'You're having a laugh now; this lineup is tragic.'
Despite the backlash, some fans defended the show, arguing that it is too early to judge before seeing the celebrities dance. One supporter said: 'People are so moody this year. It's the same every year. Yet every year we always enjoy it.'
The BBC has not responded to the criticism, but the full line-up is now available on the show's social media channels.
