Media experts at WatchMojo have ranked Scotland's 10 best television shows, with the classic sitcom Still Game taking the top spot. The Canadian company, which has over 25 million YouTube subscribers, described the BBC series as a cultural phenomenon that remains widely quoted in Scotland.
Still Game aired 62 episodes between 2002 and 2019, following Glaswegian pensioners Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade in the fictional area of Craiglang. Created by actors Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, the show is praised for the chemistry between its leads and its supporting characters.
Top Five Scottish TV Shows
WatchMojo wrote: “Anyone familiar with Scottish TV would’ve seen our top pick coming from a mile away. After Chewin’ the Fat, the creators gave their pensioner characters their own series. This proved to be a genius decision, as it regularly tops polls as Scotland’s favourite show.”
In second place is Limmy's Show, a surreal sketch show starring Brian 'Limmy' Limond, which ran for three series on BBC Two Scotland from 2010 to 2013. WatchMojo noted its iconic sketches and dedicated fan base, adding that Limmy later switched to livestreaming due to TV stress.
Third is the detective drama Taggart, which ran for 27 series from 1985 to 2010, originally starring Mark McManus as DCI Jim Taggart. Fourth is Shetland, based on Ann Cleeves' novels, first broadcast in 2013 and still airing. Fifth is Chewin' the Fat, the sketch show that introduced the Still Game characters.
Remaining Top Ten
