The filming locations for Netflix's reality competition series Squid Game: The Challenge have been disclosed, with the bulk of production taking place in London. The show, inspired by the hit South Korean drama, features 456 contestants competing for a $4.56 million (£3.47 million) prize.
Most of the programme was shot at Wharf Studios in Barking, a 10-acre site that utilised six sound stages to create an immersive world. Contestants were housed in a dormitory filled with bunk beds, mirroring the original series.
However, the infamous Red Light, Green Light game required a larger space and was filmed at Cardington Studios in Bedford, the largest indoor studio in Europe. Originally an aircraft hangar built in the 1920s and 30s, the 100,000 sq ft warehouse has also hosted productions such as The Dark Knight, Inception, and Rogue One.
Several props from the drama, including the giant piggy bank and glass trapdoors, were physically built for the reality show. The trapdoors were constructed with steel and solid Perspex tops to simulate glass, replacing the CGI used in the original.
Season two of Squid Game: The Challenge released its first four episodes on 4th November, with the next four arriving on 11th November, leading to the finale on 19th November, all on Netflix.
