Fans of the iconic Tomb Raider franchise have been sent into a frenzy after Amazon Prime Video released the first official image of Sophie Turner as the legendary adventurer, Lara Croft.
A First Look Fit for an Icon
The newly revealed portrait, unveiled on 15 January 2026, shows the Game of Thrones star channelling the classic look of the video game heroine. Turner is seen sporting Lara's signature teal tank top, shorts, gun holsters, and a pair of round, red sunglasses, a look that directly references the character's earliest digital appearances.
The highly anticipated series is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator of Fleabag, who is co-showrunning the project with Chad Hodge. The show will follow the world-famous archaeologist as she travels the globe, facing supernatural threats and uncovering ancient secrets.
An A-List Cast Assembles
Turner leads a stellar ensemble cast for the Prime Video drama. The production has attracted major names including Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar) and Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, The White Lotus).
The supporting cast is equally impressive, recently expanding to include Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein. While specific plot details remain tightly under wraps, filming for the series is now officially underway.
Fan Reaction and Legacy
The first-look image ignited immediate and overwhelmingly positive reactions on social media. Fans praised the faithful adaptation of the original costume and Turner's fitting appearance.
One excited Reddit user commented on the accuracy, noting the "iconic pose" from the first game cover. Another fan on X (formerly Twitter) declared, "Sophie Turner looks like a perfect fit for Lara Croft! She’s got the toughness and intensity." Some even boldly claimed this portrayal could surpass previous live-action versions.
Turner, best known for her role as Sansa Stark in HBO's Game of Thrones and as Jean Grey in the X-Men films, is the latest actress to step into Lara's boots. She follows in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie, who starred in two early 2000s films, and Alicia Vikander, who led the 2018 reboot. The character was also recently voiced by Hayley Atwell for a Netflix animated series.
While a specific release date for the Prime Video series has not yet been announced, the start of filming promises more updates will be coming soon.
