Prime Video has released the first look at its upcoming live-action series 'Tomb Raider', starring Sophie Turner as the iconic video game character Lara Croft. The series is currently in production and was originally greenlit in May 2024, with Turner's casting confirmed in November of that year.
Turner joins a line of actresses who have portrayed Croft, including Angelina Jolie in two films and Alicia Vikander in a separate reboot. The cast also features Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge serves as creator, writer, and executive producer, alongside co-showrunner Chad Hodge. Jonathan van Tulleken is directing and executive producing. The series is produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios, with Waller-Bridge under an overall deal at the studio.
The first 'Tomb Raider' game was released in 1996, and Lara Croft became a female action icon. The most recent game, 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider', launched in 2018, with two new titles, 'Legacy of Atlantis' and 'Catalyst', slated for 2026 and 2027 respectively.
