Craig David has expressed disappointment after claiming that his headline performance at the Wychwood Festival was cancelled without his knowledge. The singer was due to perform his TS5 set at the Cheltenham event on Friday, but organisers announced earlier this week that he was “unable to” appear due to “circumstances beyond anyone’s control”.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor, originally scheduled for an earlier slot, has been promoted to headline in his place. However, the 45-year-old artist said he only learned of the change after the festival issued a public statement.
In a message on Instagram on Thursday, Craig David wrote: “Hey everyone, it was brought to my attention that my performance at Wychwood Festival this Friday has been cancelled by the promoter. My team and I weren’t made aware until after a statement had already been shared with fans, which sadly left us in no position to give you all an update ourselves.”
He urged fans who purchased tickets specifically for his set to contact the festival for a refund. Organisers have not yet responded to his comments. The festival previously stated: “We are disappointed to announce that Craig David Presents TS5 is unfortunately unable to join us… due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control. We sincerely hope to welcome Craig to Wychwood in the future.”
Craig David’s next scheduled performance is on June 5 at Try Fest in Letchworth, followed by further UK and European dates this summer.
